Excellent find, obmar. I like her more recent post here:
| Quote: | Who's afraid of the One-State solution?
Olmert, for starters. A day after the theatrical display at Annapolis, the Israeli Prime Minister gave Haaretz a telling interview, in which he acknowledged in no uncertain terms Israel's Apartheid like nature:
"If the day comes when the two-state solution collapses, and we face a South African-style struggle for equal voting rights (also for the Palestinians in the territories), then, as soon as that happens, the State of Israel is finished."
Because heaven forbid Israel should have to face that struggle. Equal voting rights? Phshh. Why face a fight for equal voting rights when you can fight with Merkavas and F-16s; when you can sustain a decades long occupation of land, people, and resources and mask it with an empty and unrealistic call for two-states (see also his comments today: no firm timetable for peace talks, despite Annapolis) ? |
I admire her tenacity and fortitude to stand up as a Palestinian mother/journalist and speak her mind freely. She sounds like someone who wants to bridge the great abyss between the Israelis and Palestinians and create a life that is equitable for all. |

obmar,
I would imagine that the Palestinian areas overflow with diamonds in the rough. It just saddens me so to see then suffer year after year and it just keeps getting worse.
If there is one prayer I would ask of everyone here, I would ask that we pray for the children of these areas and for their safety as they learn to cope with a very destructive and intimidating world around them. I pray they receive the foresight and knowledge to understand that the best way out of their mess is to be strong in faith, strong in character and committed to peace. |

I like you said it diamonds in the rough.
If I were them, I would take my children out to somewhere else, safer.
After all God creates this world large enough for everyone. |

obmar,
I agree that there has to be a peaceful resolution to all of this, but I would be concerned about forcing people who have lived in on area for a thousand years or more to pack their bags and go elsewhere. That's exactly what the British did to the natives of the island of Diego Garcia some twenty years ago. Most of them have already died from "sadness." That's at least the term used by the others who have survived to date. Those people want nothing more than to return to the island of their ancestors, and the Brits and the Yanks aren't allowing it (the island is currently being used by the US Navy as a forward base camp for any future attacks in the Middle East that might be deemed necessary.
I would prefer to find an equilibrium between both parties where they can coexist without adversity and violence. I don't exactly know how to get there from here, but it must happen for the tranquility of all parties. |
