JELI, THURS:
The development of the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) could spur a paradigm shift in Kelantan, said state Education director Ismail Mohd Noor.
He said with an investment of RM112 billion in the ECER, the massive infrastructural development planned for the project would cover education.
“In line with the objectives of the project, there will be improvements in all aspects of education in Kelantan,” he told Bernama here today.
The ECER, covering Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Mersing district in Johor, is the third economic development region to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi after the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) in Johor and the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), encompassing Perlis, Kedah, Penang and northern Perak.
Ismail believed the opportunities available with the ECER would not only enhance education at the lower (school) level, but also at the tertiary level with more institutions coming up and skills training offered in various fields.
“The rural folk will also be able to benefit from the infrastructural development with more roads built which would speed up economic growth in their areas,” he added.
Ismail said with the implementation of the ECER development project, the state Education Department would be able to activate further plans in the National Education Blueprint for Kelantan. The blueprint was launched last year to produce outstanding human capital.
