In honor of Cindy Sheehan, who resigned yesterday after being attacked by both major parties for speaking up against the war.

IF

1. If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Citizen, my son!

Obmar,

Have you guys heard much about Cindy Sheehan in Malaysia?? She’s pretty big here in the US. She has shown that both major parties are pretty much identical in nature. I applaud her gumption. She was just a regular person who got really upset at our president when she lost her oldest son to war, and she decided to speak out about it.

Hopefully she will continue the struggle for a better and more peaceful America. I’m certainly grateful for all she’s done to open other people’s eyes.

Here is a link to a discussion she had yesterday with Democracy Now!

I knew that she became a news focus when her son died in iraq and she made a personal thing to fight against the way...

I heard that she had given up, and she had declared that her son died in vain.

Well,

Actually, I don’t think she’s given up jut yet, but she has been getting a lot of abuse from both major political parties. It is a sad testimony to our current way of doing things that an average citizen who speaks out would be so vociferously condemned and ridiculed by all the major entities in and out of government.

I have a lot of respect for someone who would give up two years of their life to walk the good walk and fight the good fight without prior agendas. It’s just sad that they would be so denounced by the powers that be. She has shown one thing though, Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin. That’s become blatantly obvious to all.

The local papers say that she had used up all her savings.

News reporting can be misleading.

Yeah,

That's not really true.

I'm sure she's not exactly penniless. Plus there is a lot of grass root support for her. She meant a lot to people, including me, because she was a nobody who had something to say and decided to act on her instinct. When she first went to Crawford, Texas, to protest near where Bush lives, she didn't tell the media or anyone. The media found her.

Now that she is a household name here, the honeymoon has worn off, and she is being picked on as well as praised. But I totally agree with her stand, get out of Iraq now. I hope she has the courage to continue her fight and overcome the slings and arrows of those who hate.
