Square watermelon...just amazing how they do that.
My husband and I frequent flea markets...
A gentleman working a booth offered me a slice of a "yellow watermelon". Since the gentleman was so polite and had a kind face I obliged him. Never had I seen one before. It was quite very sweet and very delicious...
Yellow Watermelon: variety of watermelon that has a yellow colored flesh. This particular type of watermelon has been described as "sweeter" and more "honey" flavored than the more popular red flesh watermelon.

The Yellow Crimson Watermelon is a yellow fleshed variation of the famous watermelon variety Crimson Sweet. In comparison, the Yellow Crimson Watermelon is almost identical to Crimson Sweet, save the fact that it has a bright yellow flesh with large black seeds.
The Watermelons themselves are 20 pounds in weight, round and have a green rind with darker stripes.
Though not an equal to Tendersweet Orange or OrangeGlo, the Yellow Crimson Watermelon possesses a very fine, very sweet and true taste that is often likened to having a tinge of a honey-like taste.
Matures in 80 days, which makes it a few days earlier than Crimson Sweet.

I never had heard of yellow watermelon before!
Looks cool - sweeter and more honey flavored, huh? - sounds good anyway! |

Now you got me wanting one...
Not in season right now.
Altho' I'm more thirsty than hungry.
A awesome way to quench your thirst while cooling off on a hot day.
History of the Watermelon
Watermelon is thought to have originated in the Kalahari Desert of Africa.
The first recorded watermelon harvest occurred nearly 5,000 years ago in Egypt and is depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics on the walls of their ancient buildings. Watermelons were often placed in the burial tombs of kings to nourish them in the afterlife.
From there, watermelons spread throughout countries along the Mediterranean Sea by way of merchant ships.
By the 10th century, watermelon found its way to China, which is now the world's number one producer of watermelons.
The 13th century found watermelon spread through the rest of Europe via the Moors.
In 1615 the word "watermelon" first appeared in the English dictionary, according to John Mariani in his book, "The Dictionary of American Food & Drink."
Southern food historian, John Egerton, believes watermelon made its way to the United States with African slaves as he states in his book, "Southern Food."
The United States currently ranks fourth in worldwide production of watermelon. Forty-four states grow watermelons with Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and Arizona consistently leading the country in production.
Watermelon has become a year-round staple in households the world over. With more countries than ever importing and exporting watermelons, it is easy to find the sweet, healthy and refreshing fruit any time of the year.
