GPSBabel Download
GPSBabel lets you move data between popular GPS systems such as those from Garmin, Magellan or a large number of map programs.
GPSBabel is Free Software. You are free to use it within terms of the GNU Public License. The punchline of this license is that it lets you modify the program and redistribute it, but you also have to share your modifications with others.
GPSBabel has a number of different collections of bits available for download. While the Sourceforge download scheme has impressive bandwidth and a robust mirroring scheme, it also can make it hard to find what you want. Here's an overview to help you download what you want.
Windows.
Choose a *.zip file from your choice of the release or gpsbabel-beta.
Mac OS/X.
As of July, 2006, the OS/X version replaces the MacGPSBabel AppleScript GUI with a new one written by Karl Smith in RealBasic.
Most Mac users will want the *.dmg disk image file from the download site.
Linux.
The binary distribution is for Fedora. Users of Suse or Debian-based distributions like Ubuntu would be best served by rpmbuild --rebuild whatever.rpm' on the source rpm.
Source Code.
Get the *.tar.gz file.
Misc tools and data.
* gpsbabel-data was contributed by Ron Parker. He took U.S. Government provided data with outlines of all the states and counties in the USA and converted them to a format suitable for our arc filter.
* magxfer is a program that allows serial upload not creation of maps to the Magellan handheld GPS receivers from UNIX-like systems. It really only makes sense for units like the Magellan Map 330 and Magellan SporTrak.
* st2gpx is an older program to read Microsoft Streets & Trips files and create GPX. Now that GPSBabel knows how to do this directly, this program is here for historic value only.
Support the Project
If you find GPSBabel useful, please help support it. It's quick and easy to support GPSBabel financially. Your financial support is used to fund equipment and software for development and testing. Someone paid for the features you're using now.
Contributions of time are even more welcome. Whether you're a doc writer, a bit-slinger, a webmaster, or just someone patient answering questions, we can always use more help.
