The Land of Opportunity...

The Land of Opportunity...

I've been hearing stories from foreigners, that the United States is the land of opportunity. Please, someone tell me where they get these ideas from and what the heck that means? I am an American, who has been living in the United States for over forty years, I have yet to see it...

Unless you are already rich, have tons of money before you get to the United States, please don't come to our country thinking your gonna get a rich quick fix. I can assure you it ain't happening...

Rachel this is what Hollywood protrays to the third world, big cars, fast women and lots of money. Fact is Ameica has big women, lots of cars, and fast money being spent...

When I was in Turkey I was being driven by this Turkish fellow, he was driving eratically, fast, weaving in and out of traffic. Finally I yelled at him, asking what the hell he is doing. His reply? "I am driving American style." Fucking asshole was trying to get me killed style is more like it. But hey he just saw in a movie that is how we drive...

I'm an agressive driver but I'm also a cautious driver. Nor do I ever show my agressive side with others in the car with me. I don't put other's lives in danger like that. Not my style...

Foreigners get the idea you can come to American and get rich as soon as you touch American soil. Only to find out they purchased a one way ticket to get here but no way to earn money to stay or to get back.

I ran into some dark skinned dude with a Swahili accent sitting outside the grocery store begging for money. I only had $3.00 on me so I give it to him. Usually don't carry lot of cash cause I always use a credit card...

A co-worker of mine from India, someone told her husband this was the land of opportunity, took her 5 yrs to get a VISA into this country. After she got here, took her Doctor husband another 5 yrs to get a VISA into this country. He was a prestigious Doctor in India. They were also rich in India. They still have a lovely home, lots of friends and family, she didn't have to work at all. Here, in the United States, he needs 3 yrs experience as a Doctor to prove himself. No one will hire him so he can get that 3 yrs expereince. He is now poor, works at Walmart stocking shelves at night. She wants to go back to India. He still does not.

It should be "took her 5 yrs," and "took her Doctor husband another 5 yrs." Stop fooling around, you don't write like that...

That's what came to my mind when I heard has voice. I quess I picked it up from television years ago. I'm not sure where I got that idea from.

Harris, what are talking about? Are you trying to say it ain't me? It's me, that's just what I call my lazy style. Where I write like I sound if we were talking face to face.

Your right, Harris...

I need to stay more focused. Get my mind on what I'm writing and not thinking about one thing while trying to write something else. I'm horrible about that at times. Over tired while trying to do this and don't know when to go to bed. Other times I don't like to go to bed to early cause I'm afraid I'll get up in the middle of the night, like 2 or 3 in the morning, can't get back to sleep. Then when I do get back to sleep, I'm afraid I'll sleep in to late. I  feel then like I've wasted a whole entire day sleeping in late. Any way Harris, I have these weird sleeping disorders lately.

What's wrong Rachel, what do mean you are having weird sleeping disorders?...

You aint taking those Rave type weirdo drugs are you, those mind altering chemical shit. Trying to halucinate and all that. That's how you become weak and writing all funny like. Writing like you are from India, they smoke opium in India. Are you an opium head Rachel, one of those addicts...
Radiate_Truth

No Harris!!!  Laughing

I don't do illegal drugs...

Oh!!! Tried marijuana in junior high school. You know trying to be a cool kid and all. Got a sore throat and the munchies. Didn't like it.

Did my share of drinking when I was younger, had my share of hangovers. Just don't do it any more. I'm more of a hot coffee, hot or cold tea, milk, orange juice, bottled water, is pretty much all I drink now.

After I got out of the hospital and my wound got infected cause of it, I haven't had a cigerette since surgery. I haven't had the desire to smoke one since.

You'd be lucky if you could get me to swallow medication prescribed to me. I hate taking medicine. I only do it cause I have to or as a last resort.

I think it's just my body still trying to adapt to the changes of having all that surgery. Trying to get my strength back. It's hard to get any kinda exercise when it's so cold outside and you don't feel like going out in it.
