RM28 Mln For Tourism Activities In Stateshttp://www.bernama.com/bernama/v3/news.php?id=347477General July 21, 2008 16:58 PM RM28 Mln For Tourism Activities In States KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The federal government has allocated RM28 million for various tourism activities in the states through the State Tourism Action Council (STAC), Dewan Negara was told Monday. Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib said the allocation approved under the Ninth Malaysia Plan involved 119 activities drawn up according the suitability of each state. He said Perlis was allocated RM1,580,000, Kedah RM1,754,000, Langkawi RM1,730,000, Perak RM1,956,000, Selangor RM1,950,000, Melaka RM1,827,564, Negeri Sembilan RM1,872,791, Johor RM1,298,550, Kelantan RM1,700,000, Terengganu RM1,910,000, Labuan RM1,335,000, Sabah RM1,951,200, Sarawak RM1,735,000, Pahang RM1,737,000,Kuala Lumpur RM1,810,000, Penang RM1,619,572 and Putrajaya RM1,200,000. Replying to Senator Siw Chun Eam on the differences between STAC, Tourism Malaysia and Tourism Promotion Division, he said Tourism Malaysia was set up to promote tourism events and tourist spots while STAC would identify or give feedbacks to the ministry on what the states were planning. All three agencies worked together with the state government in planning events and new tourism products, he said. To a query by Senator Tan Sri Jins Shamsudin, Sulaiman said the ministry did not have special funds for the production of films that promote the country's tourism industry overseas. "However, the ministry do give opportunities to the foreign media to make documentaries on the country's tourism products," he said. -- BERNAMA |
