PEKAN: The second Merdeka Rally for Humanity raised more than RM100,000 in cash and kind for six charity homes.
Held on Saturday, the event will benefit the homes in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Pahang.
The participants also contributed RM20,000 worth of food supplies to 200 Orang Asli families in Gombak.
Jointly organised by Maxis Communications Berhad and the National Press Club, the event was also held to increase awareness on the conservation of the indigenous culture.
The rally, involving 500 people in 100 cars and on 50 superbikes, was flagged off at the Stadium Merdeka by Datin Norizan Azizan, wife of Maxis chief executive officer Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim.
The participants include NPC members and Maxis employees. Last year, the rally attracted 250 people and raised almost RM40,000 for five charity homes.
