Proton Jumbuck is value for money'Cheap to operate' Proton Jumbuck is value for money
August 11 2007
MELBOURNE: Proton's Jumbuck half tonne ute is the lowest cost commercial vehicle to operate in Australia, according to calculations on motoring organisations by Sydney-based NRMA's Business Wise website.
The website shows that the Proton Jumbuck ute costs just A$155.05 (RM455.85) a week to own and run, calculated on an average usage of 25,000km a year over a three-year business use.
The figures indicate that the Jumbuck is up to A$400 (RM1,176) a week less expensive to run than one of the most popular diesel four-wheel utes and significantly less expensive than larger six-cylinder utes, whether they are run on LPG or petrol.
The figures indicate that the higher purchase prices of diesel powered vehicles actually negate any fuel efficiency advantages they might offer over a three-year period, flying in the face of conventional wisdom which usually suggests that diesels are cheaper to run.
The NRMA website, a subscription-only site, features a running costs calculator which factors in 14 basic requirements including purchase price, insurance rates, price of fuel, interest rates on finance and the number of days the vehicle is used privately, to come up with an average operating cost for any commercial vehicle.
Based on fuel costs alone the Jumbuck will cost as little as A$2,307 (RM6,782.5 to fill with fuel over a 12-month period, factoring in its combined average fuel economy of about 7.1 litres per 100km covering 25,000km at an average fuel price of A$1.30 (RM3.82) a litre.
Compared with a large six-cylinder petrol ute a Jumbuck owner could save about A$1,600 (RM4,704) a year in fuel costs alone, not to mention lower purchase price, insurance and strong resale value.
This is based on official fuel economy figures listed on the Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide website.
Proton Cars Australia managing director John Startari said the figures served to underline just how economical and efficient the Jumbuck was and showed how well suited it was for businesses looking to reduce their vehicle operating costs.
"Jumbuck proves a commercial vehicle doesn't have to be expensive to purchase or operate and is clearly capable of delivering some major savings for businesses and private operators as well," Startari told Bernama.
"When an independent organisation calculates that the Jumbuck is so inexpensive to run it backs up what we have been saying about it for the past three years and vindicates the many happy buyers who have purchased Jumbucks in Australia in that time," he said. -Bernama
