Net surfing improves cognition in oldstersNet surfing improves cognition in oldsters
Just a week on the Internet improves cognition in older computer novices according to research at UCLA.
Older people with little Net experience, with a week's surfing, can trigger key centers in the brain involved in decision making and complex reasoning, a process that may prevent dementia. Surfing the Internet extended brain activity into additional areas: the middle and inferior frontal gyrus which are known to be involved in working memory and decision making.
Study author Teena Moody of the Semel Institute at the University of California said the research suggests searching online may be a simple form of brain exercise for enhancing cognition in older adults.
