Najib Now A Grandfather

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- On a busy Saturday afternoon, 53-year-old Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak braved the rain and travelled 200km from Pekan to here.
He set aside his daily political programmes and arrived at the third floor of the Ampang Puteri Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, to cuddle his first grandson Mohd Nabil Mohd Nizar.
A delighted Najib carried the 3.57kg infant, wrapped in a blue towel, who was born at 11.28am on Friday -- two days before the start of the Ramadan month.
"This is a new beginning for me. I'm thankful to God for blessing me with a healthy grandson. It gives me a new feeling. A very happy feeling for me and my family," he told Bernama.
Najib, who arrived from his hectic schedule in Pahang, had to leave after spending 15 minutes with his grandson, to receive Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is arriving at the KL International Airport at 5.35pm from London after more than two weeks abroad, attending international conferences.
Najib began his day today closing a special education programme for the Orang Asli children in Pekan this morning and launched the Runchang Water Treatment Plant in Bebar.
An overjoyed father of the newborn, Mohd Nizar Najib, 28, who is Najib's eldest son, and mother Nur Sharmila Shaheen, 27, said they waited eagerly for the baby's arrival.
"I'm really happy, he is the first grandchild in our family. We would like to name the baby Mohd Nabil, we want to maintain the "N" tradition in our family," said Nizar, 28, an accountant.
Elated family members, including Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Nizar's mother- in-law Datuk Maznah Hamid and father-in-law Shaheen Mirza were also present at the bedside.
Nizar and Sharmila were married in June 2004.
Mohd Nabil is also the first great grandson of the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, Malaysia's second Prime Minister.
