KUANTAN, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Local universities must forge partnerships with the industrial sector so that they could draw up courses relevant to the job market, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said Tuesday.
"Local universities should set up incubators, private sector trust funds or academic projects that can strengthen their relationships with the industries," he said in his address at the Kolej IKIP convocation ceremony here today, where some 652 students received their certificates, diplomas and degrees.
Adnan said tertiary institutions should change with the times by being more proactive and innovative in the way they impart knowledge to the younger generation.
"By forging stronger partnerships with the industries, students will be exposed to the actual working environment. This will accelerate the learning process and the transfer of technology and knowledge from the industries to the universities."
He said tertiary institutions must start churning out high-quality graduates who could be of great value to the public and private sectors.
"The quality of local university graduates should be high. They should be capable, effective, productive, professional and have high moral values. If they are good, they will be much sought after," he added.
