EU, U.S. to work jointly on biotechnology researchEU, U.S. to work jointly on biotechnology research
The European Union (EU) and the United States are to sign the renewal of an arrangement for working jointly on biotechnology research.
The EU Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik will sign the agreement during his visit to the U.S. beginning of Thursday, said a press release of the European Commission on Wednesday.
Since 1990, the EU-U.S. joint task force has fostered the transatlantic dialogue underlining Europe's role as an important global player in life sciences and biotechnology research.
"The renewed signature constitutes a symbol of a continued effort toward closer scientific cooperation between the EU and USA in this promising field of research," said the Commissioner in a statement.
New developments in biotechnology will open up opportunities to improve medical diagnosis; to enhance development sustainability and to reduce the adverse impact on the environment of economic activities.
