By STUART MICHAEL
THE Maxis-National Press Club (NPC) Merdeka Rally for Humanity 2006 will have some Orang Asli from Gombak joining the convoy.
A convoy of about 100 vehicles and 50 superbikes, with Maxis employees, members of the public, media organisations and Orang Asli Gombak on board, will leave Dataran Merdeka on Sept 16 to raise funds to provide essential supplies for charity homes in Selangor and Pahang as well as the indigenous community in the Gombak settlement.
The spirit of patriotism ie evident among the Maxis employees and the National Press Club members at the launch of the Maxis-National Press Club (NPC) Merdeka Rally for Humanity 2006.
The convoy will be flagged off at Dataran Merdeka and will head to Shah Alam, Putrajaya, KLIA and Pekan to collect funds and supplies from participating organisations and sponsors en route to Kuantan for the official handover of the donation to the benefiting organisations.
Along the way, the convoy will stop in Gombak to present the donations to the Orang Asli community.
NPC president Ahiruddin Atan said he was excited about celebrating Merdeka with the Orang Asli community and looked forward to raising awareness of the importance of the preservation of their culture as well as their needs.
Maxis acting head of corporate affairs Datuk Ahmad Abdul Talib said that Maxis had consistently reached out to the various communities to touch the lives of people in need.

“This year, we expect to raise RM50,000 in cash and goods,” said Ahmad at the press conference to launch the event at the Orang Asli Museum in Gombak last week.
