Havana, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Two decades since its creation, the Havana-based Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB, in Spanish) is nowadays a mainstay of Cuban public health.
On the regular Cuban roundtable TV program Tuesday, panelists stated that the CIGB is one of the most prestigious and advanced scientific institutions at the service of the island's people, since opening on July 1, 1986.
Cuban experts attending the program reviewed its scientific development, explaining how it currently produces 18 medicines, among them four vaccines, others like interferon and recombinant streptokinase and the Citroprob-P, a medicine to treat advanced ulcers in diabetics.
The vaccine Heberpenta, a pentavalent medicine against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, Hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae B are the CIGB's most recent achievements, strengthening one of non-traditional exportable lines of Cuban economy.
