A short story

here is a short story.

A man lost in the desert and close to dying of thirst prays for help and is guided to a spring hidden in a deep crevice. With great effort the traveler manages to climb down to the water and slakes his thirst.

When he climbs back up he he hears panting: a dog close to death from thirst lays at the edge of the crevice unable to reach the water. The dog is so thirsty that it is even trying to eat the slightly moist sand.

The man's heart, already full of gratitude, opens further and he takes pity on the dog. Laboriously he climbs back down to the spring, but then realizes that he has no container to carry water in. For lack of anything else he takes off his leather slipper and fills it with water. Holding the slipper in his mouth he climbs back up and brings the water to the dog.

The traveler then praises Allah for having been allowed to experience how great the mercy and compassion of Allah really are.

(The dog is considered the lowest and basest of the animals and the shoe, because it constantly touches the ground, is considered unclean.)
