‘Laid-back’ tour by cycling couple
BACHOK: A Dutch couple are cycling some 1,000km from Kelantan to Singapore on reclining bicycles, which they had custom-made back home.
Buoyed by their experience of also cycling through England and most parts of Europe, Lex and Jacqueline Keezerweer hope to see more of rural Malaysia through this approach.
Riding made easy: Jacqueline and Lex on the reclining bicycles as they made a stop at a warong near Bachok on Wednesday. The couple are on a cycling tour of Malaysia.
“It takes training and vehicles actually slow down when they encounter us on the road,” said Lex when the couple made a stop at a warong here for a meal.
The duo, who work in a bank in Amsterdam, will be making as many stops as possible to take in the scenery and local culture besides sampling the cuisine.
They took a three-week vacation after reading about Malaysia in travel write-ups and promotions in Holland and arrived in the country four days ago.
“We have travelled through much of the world but this is our first time in Asia,” said Jacqueline, who added they had been impressed by the Malaysian hospitality over the past four days.
